NEW AND UNIQUE FUNCTIONS OF THE MECTA SIGMA DEVICE

Sigma is a fifth generation ECT device manufactured by the Corporation. Sigma includes a number of new features that improve the course and safety of ECT. It also retains a set of features from the previous spECTrum model that are unique among ECT devices. These features make the Sigma very easy to operate.

New and intuitive interface

To control the Sigma equipment, a new high-resolution color LCD touch screen (7-inch diagonal; 384,000 pixels) is used. Brightness can be adjusted easily. The touch LCD display can display up to seven physiological signals, as well as graphical and numerical evaluation of static impedance, stimulus parameter set and driver mode and stimulus parameter settings.

Thanks to the new and intuitive interface, the selection of parameters and device configuration is fast and simple, without confusing and hidden menus. The menu screen is divided into nine sub-categories which can be accessed through the menu screen as shown below. Sigma also includes intuitive shortcuts to access specific menu screens.

HOME

is the center of operations and provides an interface for treatment management. This screen displays treatment parameter settings, patient impedance, and up to seven physiological monitoring traces.

PARAMETERS

Easy access to the full set of parameter settings and allows selection of four different parameter ranges and single or four controller mode.

LCD

selects and configures up to seven continuous physiological monitoring tracks for display on the home screen. Trace configurations include two to four EEG, one ECG, one EMG, and one optical motion sensor (OMS) channel

RECORD SETUP

setting up to four physiological monitoring tracks for printing and turning the printer on or off.

IMPEDANCE CHECK

activates impedance testing of all monitoring leads and continuously updates the values on the screen. It is used to ensure a quality connection of the patient to the monitoring leads so that no data is lost.

MANAGER OF RECORDS

stores measured data and treatment results from the last successful and previous problematic stimulations so that the data can be saved and reprinted.

SETTINGS

options for setting default device parameters, customizing user interface controls, and printing reports.

DATE AND TIME

allows the user to set the date and time with several date format options.

Dosage and treatment options, 100 joules and 200 joules

MECTA Sigma offers two modes for selecting parameters. In single controller mode, the intensity of the stimulus is algorithmically increased by changing any controller with automatic adjustment of individual parameters. In the four-controller mode, the doctor can adjust each of the four parameters separately (pulse width, frequency, duration and current). The mode is selected by pressing the icon on the Parameter Settings screen. 4 different sets of parameters can be selected in each mode: Ultrabrief, Near Ultrabrief, Brief Pulse and Full Range.

The MECTA Sigma is configured with 100 joules or 200 joules of energy. The maximum charge of a 100 joule device is 576 mC (at 800 mA). The maximum charge of a 200 joule device is 1152 mC (at 800 mA).

Comparison of  Sigma and other ECT devices

Sigma replaces the former spECTrum ECT devices used by thousands of professionals around the world. While spECTrum devices offer either single-controller operation (4000M, 5000M) or four-controller operation (4000Q, 5000Q),  Sigma offers both modes in one instrument. Compared to spECTrum devices, Sigma has more advanced safety features and physiological monitoring capabilities. Sigma has a new high-resolution LCD touch screen and a thermal printer with a new intuitive user interface that makes working with the device more efficient.
